Pesterev Alexander

Alexander Pesterev is a painter, graphic artist, and sculptor. He is a member of the Union of Artists of Russia. He graduated from the Ivanovo Regional Art College and was one of the founders of the Petrovskaya Children’s School of Arts in Totma, Vologda Region, where he taught drawing and painting. He lives and works in the village of Ferapontovo. His works are held in museum collections and private collections around the world.

In his practice, Pesterev engages with the cultural experience of past generations, reinterpreting it within a contemporary context. His visual language is built upon primary elements — the spot and the line.

In his painting, smooth, almost silent surfaces contrast with “explosions” of thick, impasto layers of paint. The image is reduced to a sign — existing beyond time and space.

The simplicity of forms, a restrained palette of pearly greys, bluish tones, and olive ochres, along with a tactile interplay of textures, creates a sense of tangible harmony.
