“If you devote yourself to something, you must strive to be the best at it. Otherwise, it loses its meaning.”
A sixth-generation Crimean artist, Daniil Volkov approaches his work as a series of tasks — each of which he seeks to resolve through his love for his native land. Complete dedication, relentless refinement of skill, and a constant effort to remain present in the moment — these are what allow him to create his works with an almost effortless clarity, leaving viewers wondering how a single artist can produce so much with such precision.
The diverse beauty of the natural world is his ideal, inspiring him to immerse himself fully in perception and experience in order to create complete and resolved images. When encountering Volkov’s work, the viewer is not required to “complete” the meaning — everything is already present, clear, and fully expressed.
This level of precision is achieved through total presence and careful observation of the ever-changing states of nature, which he attentively records in plein air studies. Returning to the studio — built by his father — Volkov reflects on what has been observed before beginning work on larger compositions.
His canvases breathe and pulse, allowing the viewer to perceive the subtlety and harmony of nature through his eyes.
